Meet the maker

A personal approach.
A practised hand.

I’m Roxanne, the maker behind Cloth & Elm in Castle Eaton, Wiltshire.

Linen folds and soft green textiles
A study in fabric and texture

Made by hand by Roxanne.

I trained in the art of traditional window dressing in 1998 and ran a soft-furnishings business for many years before taking a break to have my family. Cloth & Elm brings that experience to a new workroom in Castle Eaton.

When you commission a piece from Cloth & Elm, you work with the person who makes it. There is time to discuss your room, explore your choices and agree the details together.

Honouring the past,
one stitch at a time.

I have a particular love of period properties. Their character and history deserve furnishings that feel at home, from the proportions of a curtain to the pattern and weight of its cloth.

I specialise in heritage homes, including unusual windows and the uneven walls and floors that are part of their character. Each piece is made around the room itself. If you have a window that is difficult to dress, I would be delighted to discuss it with you.

Traditional making

The hand-sewn details

On my curtains and Roman blinds, every hem and turning is stitched by hand. Hand-formed curtain headings are finished with hand-sewn hooks for a secure, carefully shaped finish.

Cushions and other furnishings use the construction best suited to each piece.

Looking ahead

A thoughtful approach to materials

Building a more sustainable business matters to me. As Cloth & Elm grows, I plan to develop the fabric collection with sustainability in mind and share the specific choices and practices behind it.

This is work in progress, and I will update this page as those plans become part of the workroom.
